How do you convert a garage space with minimal natural light into a high-end, luxury gîte? This gîte conversion had one problem; while the first floor apartment was well lit, and oddered bright and airy rooms to work with, the ground floor - the future living space was serviced by three small windows. My proposition was to create a large first floor landing and open up the roof space, and insert skylights into the roof. Not only does this allow natural light to flood down into the furthest reaches of the ground floor, the enlarged landing area created a sense of a bigger space as your eye is lead up the stairs.
